At this time, NCC does not offer any college level sport activities. However, we do offer intramurals, including basketball, softball, volleyball, wallyball, bowling and flag football. We also compete in an annual flag football game in the fall and softball game in the spring against Western Iowa Tech Community College, Sioux City, Iowa.
NCC offers apartment style housing directly on our campus. Cherokee Hall consists of one bedroom/one bathroom apartments intended for two residents per unit, while Lyon Hall and O’Brien Hall are made of two bedroom/two bathroom suites intended for four students. All apartments are equipped with kitchens, desks, beds, dressers, kitchen tables, cable, and high-speed wireless Internet. Submission of the application requires a refundable $175 deposit along with a non-refundable $15 application fee to secure a room. Additional housing information
Helping our students find jobs in the careers of their choice is one of the things that NCC does best! NCC’s employment rate is at 96%, with many of our highly-skilled trades reporting 100% placement rates. We also have a great Career Center on campus that can assist you with job searches, resume writing, and mock interviews.
The Admissions Team will schedule visits on Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. However, it is best if you schedule the visit prior to 2 p.m. to assure that you can visit your program(s) of interest while the students and faculty are in class. To start, you will need to complete an application for admission. You will also need to submit official transcripts from your high school, colleges attended, or GED scores. Finally, we will need to have you take an entrance exam such as the COMPASS or ACT. NCC offers the COMPASS exam Monday-Friday by appointment, which can be set up
by contacting us by calling 712-324-5061 or 800-352-4907 or emailing Student Services. If you are not seeking a degree at NCC you must only submit an application for admission. Please indicate on your application that you are not seeking a degree at NCC, not eligible for financial aid.

Our campus counselor is available to help students seek out information regarding transferring to other schools. NCC has many different agreements with various colleges to help you continue your education after you leave our campus. For more information on transferring, click here.
Undecided students are encouraged to consider the Associate of Arts degree which allows students to explore a variety of subject areas while they are obtaining their general education courses needed for most majors. The Career Center is also available to work with undecided students and an assessment tool is available to assist in the decision-making. Many of our programs fill up in advance, so we encourage you to apply as early as possible. If you are not accepted for the term that you had applied for, your name will be placed on the waitlist for that term and you will be given a guaranteed spot in the next available start date. That doesn’t mean you have to wait to start school until that time! Many of our programs have pre-requisites or general education electives that can be done ahead of time. You are never too old to start or re-start your education! For many students in your situation, the hardest thing is coming in the front door for the first time. NCC has a strong support system in place for all of our students, and our Student Services staff will help you go through the process of picking a major, getting accepted and receiving financial aid help. NCC has a cafeteria that is operated by Hy-Vee Food Stores. You can sign up for a meal plan with the Business Office.
We are currently in the process of building the Northwest Iowa Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center, with an anticipated completion date of Spring 2011. This center will be a great addition to our campus and will offer you access to a brand-new gym with basketball/volleyball courts, cardio equipment, running track, and weight room. At this time, NCC does not offer on-campus child care. You can check with Student Services for possible daycare options in Sheldon and the surrounding communities.
NCC gives out more than $100,000 in scholarships every year! In order to see which scholarships you might be eligible for, you should check our scholarship page. New scholarships are added all the time, so make sure you check back often. You should also check with your local high school guidance counselors, churches, businesses and future employers to see if any private scholarships or sponsorships are available.
Sheldon has a variety of options to keep you busy outside of the classroom. Sheldon offers a bowling alley, movie theater, golf course, mini-golf, parks, and a running/biking trail that encircles the entire community. NCC also offers great opportunities to be involved, such as intramural activities, clubs and organizations, and coming in Spring 2011, the Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center, featuring a state-of-the-art workout facility, gymnasium, and running track. NCC currently offers over 40 different diplomas and degrees in a variety of fields, including health, business, transportation, electrical, manufacturing, construction, biotechnology, computers and agriculture. You will be assigned an academic advisor upon your enrollment at NCC. This individual will help monitor and guide your academic progress throughout your time at our school. We also have the TRiO Student Support Services and we offer free tutoring services in our Learning Center. If you receive academic accommodations, you must get a copy of your request to the NCC campus counselor as soon as possible!
There are many types of federal financial aid options, including subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford Loans, Pell Grants, and work study. NCC has a variety of jobs for our students on our campus. A large portion of these jobs are available to students who qualify for federal work study. However, there is a list of both on-campus and off-campus job opportunities available in the Career Center, on the job boards across campus, and on the NCC Website.
