If you have borrowed a Stafford Student Loan while attending NCC and you are now graduating, or have withdrawn or dropped below half-time, you are required to complete the Online Exit Counseling session.
Before beginning the Online Exit Counseling session make sure you have all the required information listed below. If you end the session before completing, it will not allow you to begin where you left off so make sure you have all the requested information before you begin.
You will need the following information BEFORE starting this session:
- Your Social Security number
- Your driver’s license number
- Name, address, telephone number of your expected employer
- Name, address, and telephone number of a Parent or Next of Kin
- Names, addresses, telephone numbers, and employers of two other references not living with you. The two references cannot reside at the same address.
- You will need to know the approximate amount of loans you have borrowed. If you are not sure of this amount the Financial Aid Office can provide you with a Loan Summary Statement showing your totals from NCC, or you can go to National Student Loan Data System(NSLDS) to view detailed information on all of your student loans.

Apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You will need the Federal Code for Northwest Iowa Community College which is 004600.
Apply for a Federal Student Aid PIN. This PIN serves as your electronic signature. This is also the website to go to if you need to request a duplicate PIN.
step 1: Complete and file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 1 for priority aid consideration. You may apply online. (Be sure to list Northwest Iowa Community College in the school section of the FAFSA. NCC's School Code is 004600.)
step 2: Complete the application procedure for admission to NCC. You will not receive notification of financial aid awards until you are officially accepted by the Admissions Office.
step 3: Forward all requested forms and documentation to the Financial Aid Office. If you are selected for verification, you will need to complete a verification worksheet (see forms below) and submit signed and dated copies of student and parent federal tax forms. All requested documents must be received by the student's last day of enrollment or the end of the term, whichever is earlier. Students who do not submit all requested verification documents cannot receive Title IV funds, but may receive institutional funds. Northwest Iowa Community College will not make an interim disbursement of Title IV aid. Verification may require a correction to the FAFSA and this may result in a change of the student’s eligibility for funding.
step 4: Report acceptance of all outside scholarships or loans to the Financial Aid Office. Funding received from other sources may result in a revision of your financial aid award.
step 5: If you are awarded financial aid, you will receive an award letter based on full-time enrollment that shows the type of financial aid you have been offered and the amount of each award. The awarding of aid depends upon the availability of funds, accuracy and timeliness of the application and eligibility for specific aid programs. If you are receiving funds in addition to that awarded by the Financial Aid Office, you must notify the office in writing, so that your awards can be reviewed for possible adjustment.
